Description

This is only the second known surviving example of this rare adding machine.   The first was owned by the great typewriter collector Tom Russo and sold at Breker auction in 2019.   According to Breker, it dates to 1925.  It is interesting to note the serial numbers are very close between the two surviving machines.
This example came from the estate of a lesser known Hollywood director, most notable for directing Charles Bronson's acting debut.  Despite its advanced age, the machine works well. The full set of instructions are on a paper label on the underside of the machine.  The label is very well preserved given the age.
The machine was given a light oil rub to stabilize the surface rusting.  No other restoration was performed.
This is a fun toy to play around with.  It brought me back in time and i could experience the history of early attempts to simplify business mathematics in the days before digital calculators.
Operation is performed by using a stylus (or pen) and rotating the two wheels. The one on the left is dollars and the right is cents. It is a very simple but ingenious idea and is surprisingly quick- faster than a calculator in some cases.
I'm not super motivated to sell at this time, hence the high price.
