The rare litho includes an exact representation of The Beatles FIRST STATE STEREO Butcher cover slick measuring approximately 12.5" x 12.5" in size. The lithographic print itself measures approximately 16" x 20" in size and is numbered #316 of 1,000.

The front cover slicks for the infamous "Butcher Cover" were printed on a special paper with a slightly rough texture, and the photo used was given a slightly grainy appearance in order to make the finished cover look somewhat as though it had been painted on canvas. The print offered here shows the cover exactly as the artist intended!
The double matted framed display has a sophisticated, high-quality gallery look. The original butcher cover image is easily one of the most iconic images in both music and pop culture history! And this is a stunning limited edition reproduction of the image printed on high-quality card stock.
Recall Letter
The gorgeous custom display also includes a copy of the infamous 1966 Capitol Records "Recall Letter" which was sent out to stores and distributors. The original recall letter itself is also quite valuable. In recent years, serious collectors have paid several thousand dollars for original copies!
What is "The Beatles Butcher Cover"?
The original Yesterday and Today album cover issued in the United States in June 1966 featured a color photo taken by Robert Whitaker of the group dressed in white butcher smocks and draped in pieces of raw meat and the parts of several dismembered dolls. This controversial album design soon became known as "The Butcher Cover."
Upon it's release in June of '66, the original Yesterday and Today cover shocked most radio station DJ's, record reviewers and store owners and was quickly deemed too offensive for the public. The albums that had been sent out for promotional purposes were immediately recalled by Capitol Records. The 1966 recall was unprecedented. The world’s biggest and most influential band had their album pulled from distribution.
Value of "The Butcher Cover"
Not only did "The Butcher Cover" cause quite a stir, it also created one of the most collectible records and sought after pieces of memorabilia in music history! The original issues of Yesterday and Today, which never had the trunk slick pasted over them, are among the most valuable and sought out albums in all of record collecting. In 2019, a John Lennon signed Yesterday and Today First State Butcher Album sold for 3,193.00 at auction!
Even without signatures, an Original First State Butcher album can easily fetch ,000 or more. Thousands of copies were produced, but very few made it into the hands of fans - Some of the covers were destroyed, while most of the others were altered with a new cover photo glued on top of the original (This is referred to as the "Trunk photo"). The Beatles Butcher covers that survived unscathed are what collectors call First State. These are the rarest and most valuable record albums in the world.
Stereo vs. Mono
issues
The First State stereo issues of the Butcher cover are much rarer and more valuable than their mono counterparts, and outnumber them by a ratio of roughly 10:1. In the mid-1960s, record companies in America were still pressing records in both stereo and mono, as stereo records were playable only on stereo equipment and most buyers only had mono record players.
Because of this, approximately 80%-90% of the finished covers were in mono, with the remainder in stereo. While 750,000 of them were printed, most were either destroyed or had trunk cover slicks pasted over them. In the end, only a few hundred examples of these first issues survive today.
